Abstract

India being a rich and varied flora of medicinal plants since the Vedic period. The present study deals with the scientific validation of Ficus benghalensis (Indian banyan) with special reference to its pharmacognostical and phytochemical investigations. This is commonly known as Indian banyan or Bat or Bargad is known to have medicinal properties, also even used as home remedies in the rural and the remotest parts of the India. The fruit of Ficus benghalensis used as astringent, haemostatic, anti-septic, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and anticancer agent and also in the treatment of diarrhoea, dysentery and in the treatment of skin diseases, ulcers, vaginal disorders, leucorrhoea, menorrhagia and deficient lactation; therefore an attempt has been made to carried out the detailed quality control and assurance of the drug followed by HPTLC profiles, physiochemical analysis, phytochemical studies and fluorescence analysis of drug to get authentic therapeutic value.

Abstract

Water is indispensable for the existence and survival of life on earth. Water is needed in almost every sphere of human activity. Groundwater pollution is one of the environmental problems in urban areas. The paper presents potassium, sodium and other important physico-chemical parameters present in drinking water of residential compound of hostel at Chitrakoot and Majhagwan area, India and analyzed for their physico-chemical and biological characteristics. The results of this analysis were compared with the water quality standards of WHO, BIS and ICMR. The water samples have been collected from 6 bore wells and hand pump in Chitrakoot and Majhagwan area. In this analysis the various physicochemical and biological parameters such as pH, EC, Total Dissolved Solids, Total Hardness, Ca, Mg, Na, NO₃, K, Fe, Cl and E. coli were determined using standard procedures.

Abstract

Water is one of the most important constituent of life support system. Natural surface water bodies often have impurities from various sources as like sewage treatment plant, industrial area, domestic, agriculture, etc. the Mandakini river water sample collecting for testing of pollution load due to the physical and chemical parameter. Physical parameter as like colour, temperature, TS, TDS, TSS, etc. Chemical parameter as like total alkalinity, total hardness, calcium hardness, mg hardness, chloride, iron, fluoride, nitrate, DO, BOD, COD. The study area of Mandakini river water Sphatikshila, Arogyadha ghat, Panjabi Bhagwan ghat, Goyanka ghat, Ramghat. The DO of Ramghat sample very poor condition DO found in 4.0 mg/l.

Abstract

Water is one of the most important of all natural resources known on the earth. The safety of drinking water is important for the health. The safety of drinking water is affected by various contaminants which included chemical and microbiological. Such contaminants cause serious health problems. The physico-chemical analyses of ground and drinking water quality in rural areas of Karwi, Chitrakoot were studied. Temperature, pH, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, Total hardness have been determined along various water quality profiles. The experimental procedures were set according to the BIS and WHO (1999). Average pH, total dissolved solids, total hardness, chloride, alkalinity, fluoride, nitrate, sulphate, phosphate and Iron values are 6.87, 649.92 mg/l, 465.29, 153.66 mg/l, 344.22 mg/l, 0.95 mg/l, 36.48 mg/l, 17.74 mg/l, 0.14 mg/l and 0.10 mg/l in respectively. The study was reported some other important parameters which exceeded the permissible limit and it is unsuitable for drinking purposes.

Abstract

Clean water is essential for good health. In many developing countries it is still difficult to obtain clean water. The purpose of this research work is to provide information on natural, ecofriendly and cheaper coagulant and antimicrobial agent for water purification. Moringa oleifera Lam. Syn. seed is very effective natural agent used for water treatment. M. oleifera is a tropical plant whose seeds contain water soluble substances that have coagulation activity in water impurities. During this study, surface water samples were collected for treatment by Munaga (Drum Stick tree) seeds in powdered form, resulting in an effective natural clarification agent for highly turbid and untreated pathogenic water. After treatment of seed powder with water samples were analyzed for different parameter like pH, total hardness, chlorides, Ca hardness, alkalinity, acidity, iron, fluoride and six pathogenic microbial species. All parameters were reduced after treatment with seed powder respectively. Findings of this research lend support to earlier works recommending the use of Moringa oleifera seed for water treatment.

Abstract

Ground water samples were collected from eight different hands pump (drinking water sources) around Karwi city, Chitrakoot District (U.P.).The physico-chemical analyses of ground and drinking water quality in Karwi city, Chitrakoot were studied. Temperature, pH, electrical conductivity, total dissolved solids, Total hardness have been determined along various water quality profiles. The experimental procedures were set according to the BIS and WHO. Average pH, total dissolved solids, total hardness, chloride, alkalinity, fluoride, nitrate and Iron values are 7.84, 617.62 mg/l, 691.87, 136.61 mg/l, 180.75 mg/l, 1.43 mg/l, 36.48 mg/l, 1.57 mg/l and 0.29 mg/l in respectively. The study was reported some other important parameters which exceeded the permissible limit and it is unsuitable for drinking purposes.

Abstract

Ayurvedic medicine Kutajastaka Pravahi Kvatha, known to be effective in Daha (burning sensation); Raktatisara (Diarrhoea with blood); Sula (pain); Amadosa; (products of impaired digestion and metabolism) and Sarvatisara (all types of diarrhoea), has been standardized by following modern scientific quality control procedures for the finished product. The results of physico-chemical parameters viz. specific gravity (1.01), total solids (4.45%) and pH (4.50) were found. Microbiological limit test and heavy metals Pb, Cd, As, Hg were also found within the limits set by Ayurvedic Pharmacopiea of India (API). The obtained values can be adapted to lay down new pharmacopoeial standards with batch to batch consistency. The phytochemical constituents found in the raw material used for the preparation of Kutajastaka Pravahi Kvatha facilitate the desirable therapeutic efficacy of the medicinal formulations a whole in elements and also could help in understanding the underlying mechanism of pharmacological action.

Abstract

The present study deals with the quality control of the Ayurvedic formulation Darvyadi Kvatha Ghana Vati (Tablet) following quality control procedures for the finished product. The results of physico-chemical parameters viz. loss on drying (9.7 %), average weight (5.0 %), friability (0.15 %) and disintegration time (85 min) were found. Microbiological limit test and heavy metals Pb, Cd, As, Hg were also found within the limits set by Ayurvedic Pharmacopeia of India (API). The obtained values can be adapted to lay down new pharmacopoeial standards with batch to batch consistency. The phytochemical constituents found in the raw material used for the preparation of Darvyadi Kvatha Ghana Vati (Tablet) facilitate the desirable therapeutic efficacy of the medicinal formulations a whole in elements and also could help in knowing the underlying mechanism of pharmacological action.

Abstract

Standardization of the Ayurvedic medicine Dadimastaka Churn has been achieved by following modern scientific quality control procedures, both for the raw material and the finished product. Three samples from different batch were prepared in-house as per AFI and subjected to various physicochemical analysis and HPTLC fingerprinting. The obtained data of physical and chemical parameters for the finished product can be adopted to lay down new pharmacopoeial standards to be followed for classical preparation of Dadimastaka Churn with batch-to-batch consistency. The Phytochemical constituents found to be present in the raw material used for the preparation of churn facilitate the desirable therapeutic efficacy of the medicine.

Abstract

Natural products from plant, animal and minerals have been the basis of the treatment of human disease. India is a vast repository of medicinal plants that are used in traditional medical treatments Herbal medicines as the major remedy in traditional system of medicine have been used in medical practices since antiquity. Medicinal plants play an important role in the development of potent therapeutic agents. To keep this view in mind, a polyherbal Sama Śarkarã Cûrna is formulated in house, which is very effective in stomach disorders, asthma, heart diseases and bronchitis. It formulated using eight single drugs viz Zingiber officinale (rhizome), Piper longum (fruits), Piper nigrum (fruits), Mesua ferrea (Stamen), Cinnamomum tamala (leaf), Cinnamomum zeylanicum (stem bark), Elettaria cardamomum (seeds) and Sita. All the ingredients and curna were analyzed in order to assess the authenticity of the drugs based on ayurvedic requirement following a series of physical-chemical, phyto-chemical, chromatography, microbiological parameters. Herbal medicines are inherently different from conventional pharmacological treatments, but presently there is no way to assess their efficacy other than by currently used conventional clinical trial methodologies, in which efficacy is conventionally assessed by clinical, laboratory, or diagnostic outcomes. Systematic study of herbal drug following quality parameters can improve morbidity, mortality, and of course quality of life. There is, however, scope to utilize the flexibility inherent in the modern scientific method for conducting studies on herbal medicines.
